Music and Media Lab The Music and Media Lab is a facility dedicated to instruction and completion of independent projects by the Music Technology students. This facility allows for a complete education in computer-based music composition, MIDI sequencing, digital audio mixing and mastering, sample processing and software-based synthesis. Half of the workstations contain a Kurzweil K2600 rack sampler and a Symbolic Sound Kyma System. In addition, a suite of software is available at each station. This includes Sonar PE, Acid Pro, Finale, Sound Forge, Vegas, Csound, Virtual Waves, Reaktor 4, POVRay, and Tassman. Additional software includes Pagemaker, Illustrator, PageMill, Photoshop, and Microsoft Office. The Teacher's station has a similar configuration and is attached to a high-quality projector for illustrating concepts on a large screen. The central Music server, accessible to all workstations, contains over 40 GB of professional sample libraries and sound effects for use by the students. Students have access to the music lab approximately 40 hours per week via both proctored hours and a swipe card system. Each of the 15 stations in the Music and Media lab is equipped with a full complement of tools for composing music. Among the resources at each station are:
